What is this?

Lacking experience, each picture is a surprise. Too late I discover what the painting is about. I mean, what is ‘the important thing’. Then you have to start again, and get the important thing right. Could be colour, tone, line, depth, or perspective. Later I hope to get a repertoire of techniques, and anticipate their use in the planning. For now, there’s a lot of learning and only a little success, especially in the first attempts.

Here’s two first attempts. A copied 1m sketch my dad did to test a pen. And the view of Notting Hill’s   ‘Coronet’ drawn from the pavement seating of ITSU, opposite.

Aaaagh! Childish trees! Help! How do you paint trees…?
